A day in the life of an Ascent Elementary Flying Training Qualified Flying Instructor

The Deputy Chief Pilot within the Elementary Flying Training Programme will play a key role in the service delivery of EFT as part of the overall UKMFTS Programme.  Delivery is from purpose built facilities at RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath.

What will make you successful

As an EFT Deputy Chief Pilot  you will.

  • Instruct the EFT syllabus on the Grob 120 TP, a high performance single engine turbo-prop with full glass cockpit and retractable undercarriage. The EFT syllabus comprises of General Handling including aerobatics, basic Instrument Flying and Low Level Visual Navigation conducted at 500 feet agl.
  • Deliver training in purpose built facilities using modern training disciplines and in the synthetic environment. The delivery of phase briefs and technical lessons including practical demonstrations will also be part of your duties.
  • Gain a Certificate of Qualification of Type for the aeroplane.
  • Complete the Prefect QFI Course, graduating as a B1 QFI, or Competent to Instruction (A2) if you already hold an A2 Categorisation.
  • Believe in innovation and will be expected to pursue and lead continuous Improvement and change initiatives in consultation with the Chief Pilot.
  • Line Manage a Team of experienced EFT QFIs at either RAF Cranwell or RAF Barkston Heath, engaging, motivating and influencing your Team in order to achieve our Business goals
  • Set an exemplary example to a diverse team of Military and Ascent colleagues, demonstrating partnering behaviours and upholding the Ascent Values.
