A day in the life of the BFT & FJT Training Manager

Ascent Flight Training is seeking a dynamic and experienced Training Manager to lead the delivery of our integrated Basic Flying Training (BFT) and Fast Jet (FJ) Flying Training programs.

This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality progression of trainees using Texan and Hawk TMk2 aircraft and associated simulators.

You’ll provide strategic leadership and operational oversight, working closely with our Military partners, Aircraft Service Partners ,Scheduling teams, and Instructor training delivery teams to meet UKMFTS standards and output targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of BFT and FJ training programs.
  • Manage scheduling and operational teams to ensure seamless training delivery.
  • Ensure availability of aircraft, simulators, and personnel to meet training demands.
  • Drive trainee progression and performance through the training pipeline.
  • Champion safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across all operations.
  • Build strong relationships with UKMFTS stakeholders and service providers.
  • Monitor and report on training outputs, risks, and financial performance.

What Will Make You Successful

  • Degree or equivalent operational delivery experience in aviation training management, or related field.
  • Proven leadership in flying training programs within military or civilian aviation.
  • Strong background in resource planning, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Experience in high-tempo operational environments.
  • Project management (PRINCE2, APM) experience or training design (DSAT, TAP) qualifications.
  • Military aviation or MOD experience.
  • Familiarity with digital training management systems
  • Strategic thinker with strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communicator and stakeholder manager.
  • Committed to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative leader who fosters high-performing, inclusive teams.

Ascent Flight Training was appointed in 2008 to design and deliver a modern and efficient flying training system by the UK MOD.

Created as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin UK AND Babcock International; and is responsible within the UK Military Flight Training System (UKMFTS) for the training design and training delivery that creates the next generation of aircrew.
